No snow means a super sad birthday (D23) & Christmas (D25) for this gingerKitten!

I am finding it extremely difficult to get into the spirit of the holiday without snow - which is weird, as i actually don't care for snow.
Even the present buying, wrapping, beautiful tree, lights, countdowns, and Christmas music - which i adore - isn't helping.

It just isn't the same... *sigh* it doesn't feel 'complete'.
I hope that there is snow in the VERY near future... Say, tonight?! :)

There are several reasons I do not love you.
Here are a few...
I do not love your cold winds,
your high heating costs,
shoveling,
cleaning off the vehicles,
ice scrapping windows,
snow tires,
freezing my butt off walking with the kids,
ice & its sister, black ice,
driving at night in squalls,
the squalls,
the flurries,
the blizzards,
rosey cheeks,
frostbite,
chapped lips.... etc.

If you could come for a week, overlapping christmas day,
that'd be fantastic!!!

I have apologized many times for the lack of attention
I've paid to this blog.
I am not going to do that now.
I have my reasons for the lack of updates...

Some people do not read blogs
because they attract their attention & hold it,
or are full of interesting points of view,
topics, or written by people they know.
Some people read them to find "dirt".
Or, to deliberately try to "stir the pot"
with supposed comments & feelings
that were never written or even there in the first place.
Taken out of context.
Doing so with the intent to turn them into "ammo" in the future.

I have expressed that
when reading a blog, text, e-mail,
or any other form of written communication in which
you can not see the person(s) expression, motive, or feelings
& can not hear the inflection of tone & speech
- can be easily mis-inturpruted.
This is the apparent case of past months.

I will try to be more diplomatic,
& expressly more clear for you all...
not everything I have written is directed at (or about) you.
In the universal sense of course.
I write because I want to write.
I write to express my feelings
& use this as an outlet for my thoughts.

Why hold on to anger,
as it just ages you & shows on your face.
Why hold on to hatred,
as it begins to poison your blood & body from the inside.
Forgiveness & friendships.
These are what keep you young.
This is what life & lessons learned are about.
This is what you should teach your children...
to love, not to hate.
To forgive, & to forget.
To trust, & to be trusted.
That lies are black marks on your soul
& the truth ALWAYS come to light.
Period.

Read if you choose.
Don't if you do not.

But, please, don't attempt to use my written word against me,
or any one else's for that matter,
when you know not what was meant,
how it was said,

Toy Society

So, I was introduced by my S.I.L
to a wonderful organization
that is spreading the love worldwide by making toys
& leaving them randomly everywhere
to be taken home by children.

Tell me, what child wouldn't love to be at
the doctors office, park, beach,
dentist, parking garage, bank etc.
& find a toy thoughtfully made
& left behind with a note that says,
"please, take me home!"

This organization was started in Austrailia (I believe)
& is rapidly spreading.
It's name ~ the Toy Society.

It is free to join.
Costs very little time & energy.
& gives bid reward.
All you do is make a toy of your choice ~
it matters not of your skill level.
Join the organization.
Bag & tag the toy with instructions,
photograph where you left it,
& wait & see who takes it home.

Lovely.
Simple.

This is my first creation.
'She' has yet to be dropped.
I hope that someone finds her & loves her.

Many more ideas are brewing in my brain
& I will drop many in the future.
oh yes, I will.

weight a minute...

Yes, I said weight - & I meant weight.
I am currently about to under go adding an exercise routine into my life.
I am not as small as I once was.
Two kids & two c-sections later & my body just isn't what it was.
What scares, nay horrifies me the most, is loosing my boobs.
I love my breasts.
I don't want to be skinny - just healthy.
I wanna be a 50's pin-up all round n' curvy!
A sexy & powerful woman!
I may even book one of those pin-up shoots when it is all said & done.
I wanna feel sexy & look sexy!

I plan on having a 'mommy make-over'
once I reach my goals & get back to work.
Being a SAHM (stay at home mum)
doesn't allow for much income earning power.
Anyway, I used to do yoga - daily - before the weeins came along.
I am incorporating a Jillian Michaels - Yoge Meldown into my life!
D-day is monday.
The beginning of march break here in Canada.
Spring break to everyone else - I think.

Am I ready. NO.
Do I want to succeed. YES.
Here we go - wish me luck!

Some 'peeks' at my 'trash the dress' shoot

So, I was given the opportunity to do a free photo shoot to help out a friend with her portfolio.
A 'trash the dress' shoot.
For those who don't know this is a chance to re-dawn your wedding dress - stress free - & have a great time. Which we did.
Myself & my MOH (maid of honor) got dressed up & played in the snow. Good times.

So much fun to relax & laugh!
There wasn't alot of time for that the day of my wedding a year & a half ago!
Stress was the key word for that day!

This was awesome!
Playing in the snow, on the swings, wearing my uggs!
if only I could dress up & feel like a gorgeous princess everyday...

I am happy and sad about this.
I miss my boy terribly & his sis is very disappointed that this is not her year to go
(january birthday & the cut off is december 31).
3 days in to the school year and now a p.a.day & long weekend!
They could've let us have the last few days of the summer.

It IS the time!

It is the time of 'back to school'!!!

New backpacks, new clothes, essencials, school photos, & fees - oh, the fees!!
School fees.
Extra-corricular fees.
Dance, skating, guitar lessons, beaver meetings etc....
the list just goes on & on.
& if you have more than one child as I do --
this spending can damn near kill you!

This year, I am mostly prepared...
for school mostly.
The extra stuff ~ I'm just not sure at this point.

manicure ~ day 1

I have explained in an earlier blog

that nail polish & I just don't 'get along'.
Generally speaking,
I can't get more than a day or two out of my manicures
before they are chipped & terrible.
I have been searching for a top coat that will stand up to the 'beating'
that my everyday life will give it.
I think I have met my match!

I have had my manicure in tact now for 4days & still going!

I have done all the 'normal' stuff.
Sewing, laundry & stain removal, cleaning, dishes, cooking&BBQ, gardening, lawn cutting
child-chasing, general toy wrangling, etc.
Still, it keeps going!
FABULOUS!!!

& as an added bonus, it glows in the dark without changing the colour or appearance of your original nail polish!

manicure ~ day 4

So, my girlfriend Annie & I
both enjoy a glass of wine (or two) in the evenings.

We share conversation, relax, smoke a cigarette or two,
& just generally unwind ~ vent ~ from the days events.
We realized that we consume vast amounts of the stuff
through-out the period of a month
(which doesn't take long having only a glass or two each evening).

Needless to say, we decided to take the 'u-brew' plunge!
We have made two types now.
Both are deeeeelicious ~ I might add!

We made a 'California White Zinfandel' &
a 'Wildberry White Zinfandel'.

The whole process was ridiculously easy.
& cheap too!

$225 for 2 batches = 60 bottles.
(including bottles, corks, labeling, & shrink wrap)
That is approximately $3.75 per bottle
which, if compared to the $15+ per bottle we were spending is quite the savings!

We cleansed bottles, filled & corked 60 bottles in approx. 1/2hr!
Then came the shrink wrap tops (we chose colours)
& designed our custom bottle labels.

We wondered why we hadn't done this earlier!
& we will be doing it again ~ soon!

What a great freakin' way to start my day!
I walked into (through actually) a humongous spider web as I let the dog out this morning!

(& btw, "what the crap" is with all the spiders & earwigs this year???)
Probably the lack of sunshine & warmth this 'summer' has caused a perfect breeding ground for these disgusting creatures!

Anyway, I took it right *smack* in the bloody face!!!
Giving me the total body creepy-crawlies!
I am still trying to 'shake' it off!

Few things in this life gross me out & make my skin crawl.
Simply put, here is the list:
Spiders, centipedes, slugs, leeches, beetles/roaches, silverfish, earwigs.

I can handle most things with ease, but, these bring me to my knees!

purrfect nails?

Being a stay at home mum (SAHM), I don't get the opportunity to dress up, wear make-up, & do my hair very often. Sooo many other things come first.

And, well to be perfectly honest, functioning in my day-to-day life while chasing around children wearing heels & worrying about my appearance just doesn't work!
I'm usually barefaced & natural with my hair pulled back in a messy bun or ponytail.

One thing that I do enjoy very much is a nice manicure. It makes me feel feminine & pretty ~ even sexy depending on the colour.
I take the time in the evenings to do my nails quite often.
Purrrfect relaxation & pampering.

I kinda have a very large collection of polish in every colour you can think of!
I love all reds for my toes, & black based purples and blues are usually the colour of choice for my hands. I feel sleek & 'polished' even when I'm - well, not!
I have tried them all ~ brands that is.
Cheap ($3) to Expensive ($15+)!!!
What ticks me off about this is that not one brand can stand up to my everyday abuse!
In a mere few days, it is completely chipped, peeling and looks like shyte!

I go through the whole routine.
Moisturizing, cuticles, filing, buffing, base coat, polish (X2), top coat.
It still doesn't stay put!
I guess I am looking for the perfect top coat.
Closest thing I have found is 'European Secrets Rock Top Coat'.
It gives me at least 3-4 days of nice nails before I have to do it again.
Suggestions are welcome if you know of something better than 'the rock'!
I have yet to find one.

Just a trim...

I have to ask 'why?'.

Why do they do it?
It seems to me that at some point in most every child's life, comes the infamous haircut done by themselves or another child.

And who did it this 'thing' to their hair you might ask them?

The child's answer is almost always one of three - in my experience.

#1'I don't know!' or,
#2'Not me!' or,
#3'So-and-so did it!' which is usually a child too young to even hold the scissors properly.

Afraid mostly, that because of the reaction that they have already seen from the parent(s) that they will be in trouble.

This has happened to a friend of mine very recently.
Her 4yr old daughter decided that she needed a 'trim' out of boredom while at her fathers house. They had been working on growing out her hair all one length & now this has been set back due to the new bangs that she gave herself.
Initially, the blame was placed on my 3yr old. Whom, I might add, is just learning how to hold the scissors properly enough to cut paper. She is quite aways from mastering the skill let alone able to cut a straight line in someone else's hair.

It seems that this is a right of passage for children at exactly this age. I have known of many in my life doing this.
Thank god, so far, it hasn't happened to me directly.

Family, Fun & Fireworks

Once a year, the sleepy little town in which we live awakens in the light of it's own 'Heritage Festival'! This year, there were fireworks (as always), annual street dance, live music, tours, vendors, fire-eaters & aerial acrobats by the 'Aerial Angels'!
Free family fun for the whole weekend!

OOOhh, Aahhhh, Ooooos

The whole family goes down to the river for a picnic & to watch the fireworks display over the falls at dusk on Saturday nite!
Beautiful fireworks displays that delight everyone with colour & loud bangs n' pops!!!!

These are a few of the photos I took that nite.

The Aerial Angels: namely
'Spike' & 'Luna'
demonstrated acrobatics on the aerial silk & aerial hula hoop earlier that afternoon in the center of our downtown streets!
It was kind of a 'cirque de soliel' performance.

They also demonstrated the fine art of fire-eating & fire-passing from tongue to tongue!!!

Hubby was one of two men pulled by the two girls out from the audience to assist them with their tripod (which was blowing around due to the wind that day). This was a hard job for him. Heh. Yea right!
He described it as watching the strippers do their thang with their clothes on!
They definitely were flexable that is for damn sure!!!

Our children had front row seats for the performances.
They loved the show!

'Luna' on the aerial hula hoop -- with hubby watching on -- or, is it up? teehee.
After the show, the family had their photo taken with 'The Aerial Angels'!

Waldorf Dolls

I have been pointed in the direction of the "Waldorf Method" by a few friends.
My girlfriend Kerri (who was my babysitter as a young girl) is a 'waldorfian'.
*I'm not sure that that is the correct term...
She does all the clothing 'remodels', & natural herbal organic cleaners (which she makes herself), breastfeeding, babywearing, you name it! One down to earth (literally) kinda girl! Many props & mucho respect!

I myself am not a home-schooler, re-cycler of clothing, & an all natural cleaner kinda girl.
I enjoy sewing & creating, but, I also have a strong passion for shopping, instant gratification & want my children to be taught by patient, well educated teachers.
I am not (in my mind) capable of meeting all the requirements of a home-schooled education keeping up with the requirements needed to eventually excel in highschool & college etc.

I was a babywearer though.
And I still am, on ocassion when my 3yr old allows me too!
Anyway, a few friends pointed me in the direction of a special lady (Tanja MacKenzie) that creates baby slings, carriers, clothing for adults & children, & yes, waldorf dolls.
I was checking the dolls out when from behind me I heard a gasp of excitement & an "ohhh mummy! I love that one! The blue mermaid one!! She is so pretty! I love her!"
We have spent much time (over 2 months) saving money in a special jar for her very own special doll. It will look similar to her. Brown eyes, pale skin, dark auburn/brown hair & all!!
She even choose the fabrics for the dresses herself!
We are very excited to see what arrives in the mail over the upcoming weeks.

Wow, I really am a terrible blogger!!!
But, god only knows if anyone is reading this anyway.

Summer is here!
(Well kind-of ~ It is really way to cool to be summer on a heat scale technicality!)

My wonderful kiddies are outta school & my s/d, Raveykat, is with us for the next couple of weeks of July.
& I have already heard those dreaded words about a gazillion times... you know the ones....
"Mum, I'm bored! There is nothing to do."
*sigh*

Swimming lessons are now on, Raveykat is doing the 'Red Cross baby-sitting course' as well as her regular summer activities, birthdays, parties, work, family, camping, my gardens, photography.... I gotta say ~ it has been (& is gonna continue to be) a very busy summer!!!

I will blog though.

Fountain of Youth = Sunscreen & a good Hand Lotion

Well, I am feeling about 60+ lately instead of my actual early 30's.

I feel stress.
More importantly, my skin feels the stress.
I am seeing it in the lines around my eyes, my forehead, and most of all -- my hands & feet!
I remember my grandma's (plural) both having veiny hands & wrinkled skin... it kind of frightened me in a weird way.
I don't want to be old, let alone look old.

I have been an advocate of skin care
& more importantly sunscreen use for a very long time.
My life time actually.
Especially for my children.
I apply it to my face daily both 'plain faced' & under my make-up.
I carry a stick of 'VICHY Ultra Protection Sunblock Stick For Sensitive Areas spf60' in my purse.

I 'push' it on everyone who will listen to me!
My lil' sister just went out & purchased one after one of my many sunscreen 'lectures'!
Use it & ♥♥♥ it! Your skin will thank you!

Over the past year,
I have discovered a fabulous line called 'soap & glory'.
I have tried many of their products from plumping lip glosses 'sexy mother pucker' (a wonderful name - they don't actually plump, but, give the sensation & feel tingly on your mouth) their shower gel - 'clean on me', & my new fave hand cream - 'great shakes' which is now a staple in my purse. The line has a great vintage 50's flare (which I adore) & is quite reasonably priced.
I purchased this line here in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart.
It is also available on-line.

My hands are looking better every day!
This just may be the fountain of youth for my hands... wait & see.

Crazzzy Week-end!

Life did not slow down at all this wknd!

Firstly, it was the long Victoria Day Wknd 'aka' May 2-4.
Secondly, It was my step-D Raven's 11th birthday.
It was a joint celebration with hubby Jay, whose bday falls exactly two weeks later.

***The Birthday Ice-Cream Cake ~ the Fave***
***Rave chose the pumpkin candles ~ that's my girl!***

***The 'moustaches' ~ Ravey-kat's was a knitted bday gift courtesy of Aunt Amy***

I picked our Ravey-baby up late on Friday so that her mum could have a wee bday celebration with her before she left for her weekend with us.

This was a lil' bit of an inconvenience for me yet, I completely understood.
Now under a slight time crunch & fighting the long wknd traffic we set off to purchase groceries & presents!
I took her out & we bought her a new bike (with the help of my mum&stepdad) & then took her bra shopping at La Senza since she needed new.
This was a sad day.
The girls 'training bras' no longer fit & we had to shop in the women's section for bras. I & her father are a lil sad that she is growing & developing so fast!
Actually, I'm pretty sure that her father is in complete denial about the 'body transition' his young daughter is in!
Aren't they suppose to stay little forever???

So frightened of my children going through puberty. Not sure how to do it or handle it.
I mean, I went through it without a problem - sort of - with only the 'normal' teenage angst & no direct 'acting out' against the establishment & the parental units.
I guess I 'broke' my parents in being the oldest & possibly made it easier for my three younger siblings.
The hormonal imbalances & mood swings! ohhhmygawd!
Not looking forward to that in the next few short years!
But, I digress...

There was massive shopping, running around, cleaning, presents, ice cream cake, silliness, children smiling & a lot of wine 'sipped' throughout its entirety! Everything went off w/o a hitch though.

And, to complete the birthday fiesta, Uncle Kelly - as always - brought Rave fireworks to end the evening.
It was an almost stressful day - surprisingly enough.
I had the dishes done & mess cleaned up early enough to sit, relax, & enjoy the sunset.

Cuteness in Denim

Well, I attended my sons first school spring concert last nite. ♫♪♫

He is in Grade one this year.

In junior & senior kindergarten, they do a short Christmas type of presentation. You know the kind ~ the one with snowmen, candy canes & 'old school' carols about reindeer & sleighs.
Serving cookies & juice boxes at the end of the performance, while 'Santa' makes his appearance & hands out the 2$ pre-wrapped unisex gift that we (the parents) were asked to bring to school the day before.
Those days are over.
Now, as they join the regular school grading age, they start doing Spring Concerts in replace of the standard Christmas concert.

There is something that i hate to admit, but, I truly dislike watching children's choirs ~ unless, of course, my children (niece / nephew etc.) are in them.
Terrible, this I know.
But, listening to a bunch of kids singing really out of tune & commenting on how beautiful & wonderful it was is not my 'cup of tea'.
I'm sure that the majority of parents (who are honest about it) will agree with this statement.
You find your own child (or small family members) sweet, talented, & absolutely 'to die for'.
Others, not so much.

Anyway, his grade one class did a 'dance' number to the song 'Cotton eyed Joe'. When the number began I was overwhelmed by the cuteness of my own - very uncoordinated - sons 'dancing'.
He was trying so very hard.
He was tremendously adorable, but, I laughed.
Yes, it was hard to control my giggles as I watched & attempted to video tape the performance. There just may be some slight camera motion.

Anyway, I attempted to 'pull' myself together, & as I glanced over at my husband, I quickly discovered that he too was having the exact same reaction.
We were both wearing a huge smile & our pride was clearly written all over our faces.

So, I am sharing it with you now because it is MY boy, & yes, I find it to be amusing, sweet, & a happy moment for anyone to watch.
Bias, absolutely I am.
But, there is no choir singing.
Just dancing.
Torture free entertainment in my opinion.

P.S. ~ I later discussed with my darling hubby, as delicately as one can, that our poor son had indeed inherited his fathers 'mad dance skills'!
Poor boy. Good thing he's cute!

My talented daughter was barely a year when we realized her love for drawing & art.
She is now a little over three years old & the love keeps on growing.
Paint is her favorite medium.
It wasn't until about the age of two when we were struck by the epiphany that we should be getting her some canvas to paint on in order to preserve & save these tiny masterpieces.
Here are a few of those pieces.

bad bad blogger

I have to admit that i am a bad, bad blogger!!!
I'm sure that you can all understand how 'life gets in the way'. It is not an excuse. Well, actually it probably is.
But, it is a legitamite one.
I have made a promise to do better.
My son has his spring choir concert at his public school this evening with his grade 1 class. They don't do a 'Christmas' concert - which is absurd in a majority christian community, don't get me started - they instead have a spring concert. I will post again after that.
Generally speaking, i must fight for my time on-line now a days.
Between my husband, my 11 year old step-daughter, 6 1/2 year old son, & myself... there aren't enough hours in a day to share a single computer.
I promise you my readers - if there are any - that i will indeed put forth the effort & my boxing gloved right hook if needed, to blog whenever possible.

blogging. who knew?

i have finally got my kiddies into bed & have sat down to preform the task of 'tweeking' my blogspot page to my liking. this can be very time consuming as i have quickly found out. i should be doing laundry & other misc household activities, but, i am curiously intrigued to find out which picture fits best behind my blog title, & what font is most suiting of me.

if indeed there actually is one.
i need to spend more time actually figuring it out...
like ~ how do i find other blog pages that may interest me? i am getting 'sucked' in & should stop for the night.
but, hopefully, someday, i'll actually have something interesting to say, & maybe some followers who actually want to read it.
dare to dream.

Taking the plunge...

Well, here i go. Taking the plunge into the 'bloggers' world.

Uncharted territory for me.

Hmmm, i never thought that 'I' would be without something to say ~ or, write in this case.
I guess this is what would be considered typical 'writers block', & me, without my cigarette in hand... a must for intellectual & creative brainstorming!
I know. For shame.
Truth ~ everyone has at least one vice.
That & a glass of red wine would be mine.
